Tom and I (Tombear) were talking earlier about bannock spades.
These are basically heavy duty spatula/fishslice type tools used to turn scones, bannocks, and oatcakes baking on the girdle or bakestone.

They're not very big, apparantly made from wrought iron, and seem to be very useful implements.

We're curious....how hard would it be to make one of these ? could someone give us a ballpark figure for one ? or a trade value ?

We only have links to illustrations for you to go on, but the last one has sizes.
Basically think thickish pallette knife. The edges are sort of rounded down at the front so it slips under the bannock.

I have a pretty big palette knife (blade 43mm x 300mm) if it's any use to you. Marked Murray & Steven Glasgow.

Interesting. It'd be easy to laser cut a batch out of steel, but I guess you want something more authentic?

May sound daft, but what about stripping the paint off a seaside spade?

There's not much too them. Any old saw blade could be cut up for one. To pound one out of round stock would take awhile if you don't have a power hammer, but still not much too the job. Were I a wee bit closer....
