My locations app for the desire HD has randomly stopped working today, is this the case for any other desire hd owners or is my phone playing up?

Can you confirm whether you mean the GPS location for data tagging (commonly used to tag images taken with the phone's camera) or wether you are referring to the location detailed in the weather widget ?

Assuming you mean the location detailed within the weather widget, have the update settings changed to only update manually or is it still set to auto or X times per day ?

Have you recently been overseas on a foreign network or do you use T-Mobile which allows hopping across to the Orange network in poor areas of T-Mobile reception ?

Sometimes this happens in a particular area where the phone has the corrects settings but fails to receive the update, and sometimes it is due to related services on the phone not being active when you think they are. Typically "accounts and sycnhronisation" goes offline or resets to manual instead of automatic, which drags related services down with it.

Could be a bunch of underlying reasons but it would help a lot to know whether you mean GPS location (which can get a little screwy in certain areas) or if you mean the geographical location that your weather app should be using.

It's not normal, but it is quite common...

I mean the locations gps navigation app (htc's satnav) the one that you download and cache maps for free with, so you dont need to use internet access with satnav while driving.

It just won't connect with the server every time i try and load the app. It was working fine untill the other day then alll of a sudden stopped working.

All the settings are as they were before; all background sync is on and gps location is on etc. I have also tryed a soft and hard reset with no joy!

Who is your carrier ?

O2, T-Mobile, Orange etc,.

Get them to verify that your data services are correctly applied to your account. I had an issue with two accounts on O2 recently where services had been suspended/discontinued on both accounts (both phones belonged to the same person), which resulted in an iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S both crapping out at the same time while he was away on business.

You have nowhere else to go until you have that checked since you have already confirmed that a hard/soft reset has not fettled it.

If your carrier cannot identify an issue with one or more data services then you really have to look to the device itself as having a possible fault.

Does it fail to operate correctly at any significant distance from your home ?

Just wondering whether local coverage might have been affected for one reason or another. I'd be asking your network carrier some questions right about now...
