On your blog in the "testing the bushette" you cut into a tree, would you happen to know the species, ?

Hello, Laurence.

It is called the Velvet Mesquite (Prosopis velutina). It is a very common tree where I live. Hope that helps.

Just to give you a better idea of what the wood looks like, I made all of the following knife handles from it. It can vary quite a bit in color. I really like using this wood. We also use it almost exclusively in our wood stove to heat our house during the winter.

This handle on this one comes from part of the root of the tree.
