When I went to the Gamefair a while ago I found a second hand shooting stick with a traditional round walking stick handle split down the middle that opens flat for the seat. I'd been after one for ages but it's difficult to find that style, most are the box frame with leather slung between to sit on. And new ones are stupidly expensive if you can find them.
Anyway the shaft was too short so I bought a broom handle, cut it to length and then burnt a green man in the front. I didn't want to carve as I thought it would weaken the wood too much.
£8 for the original stick and £2 for the broom handle.
I'm oiling it with toasted seasme oil at the moment as it was the darkest oil I could find (originally bought for oiling a cooking spatula) so the wood is darker than the photos now
Anyway here's the result
I also made the round bit that stops it sinking in the mud. cut a circle out of some metal I had and welded it onto a nut. Sprayed it with galvanised paint and away you go
Cheers
