I bought some PU-coated canvas to cover a hatch; stupidly didn't read advert carefully enough. It is nylon rather than cotton.

Oh well, that's no biggy.

However - which way up to use it? Nylon side up would look a bit better but wouldn't it be more durable PU-side up? It will be used to cover a hatch that is permanently outside on a boat.

In the woods if possible.
Are you sure it's nylon? Most of this stuff is polyester.

Anyway, use it PU-side down, and protect the PU coating from abrasion because it won't last five minutes if it gets rubbed against anything by the wind.

It will probably only last six months in direct sun anyway unless you coat it with something to absorb UV.

The seller says nylon and it does have that shiny look.

PU down then, anyway. That's a good consideration.

If it had been canvas I would have just slapped some paint on it.
