Interesting find. Amazing, in fact!
Ceremonial or for field use?

From my experience with (mainly) birch bark, they created an ingenious laminate, stronger than the componens.
I can see huge benefits with a such construction. Apart from the huge weight saving, it is also much easier to repair than a traditional wood hide/ metal shield.

One main negative I can see is that the shield is not so useful as an offensive weapon by itself.

I wonder if this construction maybe was the ‘standard’ common warrior shield construction?
Cheap, easy and simple to make and repair, can be carried and used by an untrained peasant with a weak left arm.....

Once unusable, just use as tinder.....

Having just spent a weekend running around wielding (fake) weapons, I can see the appeal of having a light and fast shield with good coverage. If all it did was ward off the first few sling stones, arrows and spears before getting destroyed by an axe, it's still worth carrying. Pretty amazing tech though, just over half a kilo and only a few mm thick, capable of deflecting arrows and resisting sword blows.

Hi Janne ,
Interesting enough but still, you might want to change papers and read a better paper than the daily horror

I read several online publications, British, Swedish, Norwegian and Caymanian.
Plus a good one, called Siberian Times! Based in Yakutsk I think.

I gave up my 45+ year long subscription on National Geographic a couple of years ago.

That DM article was good, worth reading. Of course you can find a better one in some scientific publication,

Daily Mail is an excellent source for vital information about the Kartrashians, Kate's latest recycled dress, Meghan's family and so on. Good stuff.

Excellent journalists there too. Some can even read and write.
:)

Here is another interesting one, but very badly written.
