Thanks buddy, we've got quite a bit similar to that. So I'll leave it for now. Hopefully someone else can make use of it.
I recently bought a Mkvll gas mask bag, Indiana Jones style. It’s an original, 82 years old, and it has a length of that coiled up und tucked into a tiny pocket inside the bag. No idea what it was for, but it’s a nice thing. 
I'd hate to say, "they don't make it like they used to" about string but the tightness and lack of unravelling makes it better than the glorified garden twine we now have.
