A little axe I have been working on for a few weeks.

. It's an Elwell 2 3/4 lb head from e-bay.

It had a decent amout of corrosion and had already had a botched renovation, so I decided to get creative.

The handle is a 24" hickory one with decent grain orientation and lovely colour. Just put in the wood wedge and had the first 2 coats of boiled linseed oil.

Pretty pleased for my first hang. This size head should really have a longer handle, but as it ended up about 2 1/4 lb after all the corrosion was removed and the texture applied, I am glad I managed to get the smaller one to fit.

Waiting for the metal wedges to arrive now.

Great job on the restoration and handling of the axe. Very tidy, tight work.

As for that finish, personally I really hate seeing that type of texture finish on an axe, I'd much rather see it left smooth than carving all that dimpling in it but each to their own as they say
