I've just got a Predator PRI 45L pack to replace an old one and have done a few miles with it quite heavily loaded, and have realised that as the years creep up on me (with a big stick!)
I need to fit a hip belt to it.

Does anybody know if there's a quick and convenient way to do this? There are two metal D rings at the bottom and I was wondering if this is designed in to take some kind of issue belt?
It'll be very difficult if not impossible to stitch one on with a domestic machine and I certainly don't know how you'd do it by hand - and my hands wouldn't do it anyway..........

Anyone serving/served who might have an idea of how to go about this? Thanks in advance,..................................atb mac

No reply, came the stern answer! Surely somewhere within the vast resource of knowledge and experience on this forum someone has an idea as to how to do this?

How about somebody who has the civvy version of the Predator could post a couple of good clear photos of theirs showing how they're attatched at the factory; at least I'd have a clue!..........atb mac

Not the military ones, I think it's the only difference................they don't fit 'em because most squaddies just cut 'em off I'm told.............I have seen those images, but can't expand 'em enough to get a good look at the build...............thanks for the response,................................atb mac

This is no help!! But thats the reason I bought the 60-100 sf bergen. Far more comfortable and offers better load carry options :)

Being the skinflint I am, I couldn't resist £40.00 posted for a brand spankers military one, and even if I have to take a drive up to jayjays @ Brecon and pay them to do something I reckon I'm still quids in..........
I've had a used one for a while and find it extremely comfortable and very handy as a smaller pack when I zip it together at the sides; plus I already have the PLCE pouches to fit it so it fulfills all my needs apart from the long trips out, for which I use a LA Sting with pouches; I can be out for a week with that, food, water and all else I need for reasonable comfort...............atb mac

If there's two d-links At the bottom my suggestion would be to buy a hip belt for the us Alice pack that should attach straight to the links .hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion, walker, I'll look into that soonest.............................atb mac

Lister; Thanks for the input - the belt in your first link might just do the job, I'll have a think and get the pack empty tomorrow and have a look. The military version doesn't have anything at all on the bottom for a hip pad,
and I really don't want to start unpicking seams and all that, my hands just won't handle heavy sewing like that any more. I was hoping that perhaps one of the members serving or ex- infantry might have come across the mod. before; I bet there is an easy one for this...............Thanks for your input................................atb mac

Yeah, I think that's gonna be the way to do it, a gurt big flat bit so's not to make a lump and have good grip; might even to be able to glue it on to the pack and avoid having to puncture it with stitching.....atb mac

You'll need the stuff used for Wah-wah pedals then... 4" (100mm) wide and sticks like do-do to a blanket... I'll find a link.

Absolutely brilliant! You're a gent, a scholar and a damned good judge of horse!.............that'll do the job nicely wingstoo, thanks a lot,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hell of a long time since I used a Wah pedal, btw!...............................atb mac

Ah right, if it has a couple of D rings at the bottom of the back (think it does), use a couple of grimlocks.carabiners and mount the belt that way, or just use a couple of prussik loops.

I'm going to get the belt in your first link and the self-adhesive velcro wingstoo linked to and I think that'll do the job - problem with grimloks and that sort of stuff is that it doesn't form a rigid joint - you wouldn't want any play whatsoever there, apart from the fact that any kind of jiggle/rattle/shaky thing on a pack would drive me spare!

Thanks a lot for your input and I'll post the finished job when I've done it...........................................atb mac
