Inspired by this excellent thread http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119238&highlight=basket I thought I would have a go using some chunky coir rope that I got from Aldi a while ago. It didn't look too difficult. And to be honest, it wasn't, but the coir had been coiled so it had taken on curves and spirals of its own, making it easy to get the threads out of sequence.
Nonetheless, in less than an hour, I had produced... this!
Check out that bad weaving! Here it is with the wife's mug for scale
it holds an egg, with room for a second, and was quite secure.
Best of all, it was easy, and actually quite fun. I will be having another go, possibly with an easier to use fibre.
