Silky is great but it takes more finesse to use. If used too aggressivly it´s easy to break the blade.

Just remember that it is a pull saw and must be used as such. The cutting only happens during the pull stroke so be careful not to force it hard or push downwards on the push stroke. It is easy really so long as you bare this in mind when you use it.

Although it is fairly rare that they actually break I think the longer blades like yours probably have slightly more of a tendency to snap than the shorter ones due to their size. That is why I prefer the Outback versions over the standard ones. As well as having a tougher handle the blades are also a fraction of a millimeter thicker and hence are slightly less prone to bending or snapping. It is only a tiny difference but every little helps.

Are you saying the Accel is better than the pocketboy? Sorry - just asking , just seen a price for one and tempted even although I have an Pocketboy

It’s bigger but not too big. I’m on the lousiest 4G or I’d look them up, the Pocket Boy always looks tiny by comparison. After giving up with bow saws for tree work, the Accel did the same job for many years and would fold and pocket easily, or hang safely on a carabiner.

Ah, yes, Camel Thorn - unbelievably hard; I replaced my Laplander blade when I got back!

I have a silky sugoi, absolutely brilliant, and can be sharpened.

But if you don't want to spend a fortune for occasional use, look at samurai saws...... very good value

So is the Opinel, and also the pruning saw that I got for SWMBO a few years ago (though that's out of commission at the moment because the pivot bolt came loose and got lost).

Samurai saws are a great budget tool I’ve got three of there folding saws and I’ve got one of there fixed saws cut surprisingly well and really affordable.
