Pomoly Tents.... Any good?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience of the Pomoly tipi tents? I've seen lots about them on YouTube, but the reviews are typically by folk who have been sent them. They are invariably going to encounter some bias so I wonder if anyone has actually splashed the cash on one and has some experience with them?

I quite fancy getting a small tipi tent and like the look of the Pomoly Yarn Solo canvas tipi. It's very similar in dimension to the Tentipi Olivin 2 CP but a third of the price. I don't mind forking out for the tentipi but not if the Pomoly is just as good.

I've also been tempted by the Tschum tipi tents but they no longer appear to be available for delivery to England .

Because the website doesn't give you the option of delivering any of their goods to Britain. I assume this is due to the complications brought about by our exit from the EU.

As Tschum tents are handmade by only one single man in Germany, there is usually, similar to good custom knife makers, a waiting list of approximately one year for the tents.

But the price and waiting time are worth it without any doubt. These tents are awesome.

He buys the best available materials, makes the best possible product and sells it in the end for a reasonable price.

That's a traditionaly thinking hand crafter, who makes and sells to others the tents that he wanted to have for himself.

Different to most other constructions, you can use a tent oven if you want, but you can ignite a well sized camp fire in the middle of the Tschum 4 Persons tent as well. That are hiking tents! You don't need to schlep around the oven if you want to heat them!

Would I be a Brit, I would even go to Bielefeld and pick up the tent myself if needed. That's a nice hiking area there and he knows there every stone of course and can tell you where to go.

I stand corrected, I've just been on the site and UK is now an option. I genuinely have been through that list several times and could not see the UK listed!
Genuinely tempted to get the 2P tipi not least because, when you add on the cost of the pole, it's about £100 cheaper than the Tentipi Olivin 2!

Hi there We ship to the UK, no problem. Only the shipping time is a gamble in these times. @Erbswurst thank you for putting that straight.

Maybe that the option dissappeared from the menu for some time, we had to tweak on that thing to comply to the brand new EU OSS laws, sorry for any inconveniance.

It's really very nice all around, the towns and villages too. I know the area pretty well as we organised a lot of concerts there.

Thanks both for your insight. Things ended up going on a slightly different route, I sold off some old kit and used the money to order a Luxe Hexpeak V4A. I think the hexpeak will work well for me as I'm not interested in 'hot tenting', certainly not in the southern UK climate.

I'm definitely interested in getting a Tschum tipi, but for now they're probably a stretch too far for my finances and will need to commit some time to save up the money (I'm not one for using credit to buy things). I was also a little concerned about the import duties that may be levied thanks to Brexit! (thanks for pointing that out Crosslandkelly!). I will have a Tschum tipi one day though, they look awesome and a cut above the rest.

Tschum and Luxe Outdoor Germany are one and the same man.

The SilHexpeak V4a is a Chinese construction and product, but Homeier changed a few important details.
In my opinion it's far better constructed than the other plastic pyramide tents.

I recommend to leave it open if you aren't forced to close it. Like this you will have far less condensation water inside.

I usually put some kind of washing line through the loop an tension it between two trees. Or I hang the tent under a branch. That's lightweight and the pole doesn't disturb in the middle.

I tried out various lightweight ropes and of course the German made is the best, really.
I also replaced the tent stake lines with that rope, as the original ones sometimes slip through.

If you order this line, I recommend to buy much more than you calculated in the beginning. I use it for a second washing line, to attach little items to the belt and so on. It's in my opinion the best camping line on the market.

I admit that it's even as a German not so easy to understand what Homeier explains here, but it's worth the effort.

He shows here the easiest and fastest way to pitch a Silhexpeak V4a perfectly.

The important point here is, that you put the door hook onto the next ring and tension that line between two tent stakes. You shorten 3 ground edges to 2 ground edges and get like this the diametre of the tent between the first two tent stakes.

Depending on what you did exactly, now the position of the hook or another usual ring is under the tip of the tent. If you want to hang the tent under a tree, it must be exactly under the branch. Or exactly under the "washing line".

Afterwards you open the hook, set it in the original place / ring and pull out the other 4 tent stake positions. And afterwards you pull up the tip or set the pole in position. Or you use two poles outside, like a tripod, and hang the tent under it.

You need to try that out slowly and pay attention on what's happening exactly geometrical and keep that in mind to get it done fast and correctly if you are using the tent.

You should seal the seams before you use this tent anyway. So, you need a first preparation trial on the lawn of a private garden anyway, where the seam sealer can dry in the sunshine of a friendly day.
