Absolutely understand except that, lacking your discipline, I could (would) easily forget to check - so I don’tI carry a large bunch of keys because I am good at losing small things to reckon and I have unwittingly tested this, dropping such a bunch makes such a racket am caused to notice and with ease find, in addition the heft assures me of their presence upon my person without physically checking of which I do anyway , a habit left over from my mob experience.
This is not a pocket dump - it only accounts for two of the nine pockets in my trousers.

The light curb chain runs through the eye of a snap shackle that carries the house keys. The shackle is clipped through a belt loop.
I never disconnect anything from the chain.
The car key reaches the dash with everything else in situ. The house keys on the shackle unclip from my belt loop with a single tug- still connected to the running chain.
Before you mock - I have not lost my car keys, my house keys or my wallet once in the last thirty-five years. Of course it could happen tomorrow as my two brain cells become more and more estranged.
I adopted the chain while working in Africa. I’ve tried cords of various sorts, including retractable ones but a light chain is far more manageable.
