Hello there all,

Let me start by saying that I am totally new to this whole forum thing. So please forgive me if I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

I'm not exactly sure where to post my question so I was hoping that I could just do it here and hope for the best or that some kind soul would come to my aid.

I am actually after doing a bit of a trade as it happens. I am looking for two very particular and, as I have discovered, very rare webbing pouches to add to my bushcraft belt order.

I am looking for The SAS 58 pattern 'drop pouches'. I believe they were in use in the 70's and 80's. I need the drop twin armalite pouch and the larger drop E&E/kidney pouch. Ideally they need to be fairly new in condition. I have a whole garage full of unused brand new PLCE that's up for trading.

Please let me know if you can assist in any way at all.

Many thanks in advance,

Ollie W.

Thanks very much Mat. I'm getting the hang of this slowly but surely :) Ahh well, thank you anyway good sir. Would you be able to tell me if I have posted my question in the correct place? Not sure if there's a specific area for this kind of thing.

Many thanks,

Ollie

Welcome Ollie.I guess the right place for your post is in the
classifieds section under Swaps or Wanted.
Hope this helps. Simon

hello,
Quote:"I am looking for The SAS 58 pattern 'drop pouches'. I believe they were in use in the 70's and 80's."
You mean Limpet pouches? Try SASS http://www.sasskit.co.uk/ (site presently under construction) or try
http://stores.ebay.com/sasskit or http://www.silvermans.co.uk/Product...ry/Category/WEBBING/id/1/Text/75/Default.aspx
I've still got my 'lower belt order' as per your details which was worn around the waste (as you do) below
the actual webbing kit or on it's own. Unless it's specific 58 SAS patt I'd suggest the later PLCE kit which you can purchase
limpet pouches along with the actual issued webbing belt order, sure beats the old canvas stuff.
Bit of nostalgia there with your request, good luck with your search & welcome to the forum.
Regards
David

Originally, the SAS webbing was home made from a mixture of 58 and 44 patt webbing pouches, usually 58 ammo pouches, one 58 kidney pouch, and 44 water bottle carriers. The ration pouch was made from the end pocket of a 58 large pack or 44 small pack, with the flap folded over to form the belt loop. Webbing for the drop straps was woven-to-width canvas scavenged from various parts of the two original webbing sets. I used to make up these rigs in the 1970's, and still have a 44 water bottle carrier with a drop strap from the side of a 58 kidney pouch. Each pouch was fitted with loops at the bottom for a utility strap which stopped the pouches bouncing about when moving. I sold the rest of my rig to a mate when I left. Unfortunately, I can't find any pictures of one of my rigs in use.

In the 1980's a company called Survival Aids, based in Morland, Cumbria, made a set of pouches commercially, but they went out of business years ago. Hope this info is helpful.
