Plants for dyes at the Botanics.

Was stoating through the Botanical Gardens and noticed they had wee herb beds and the likes. Hadn't seen them before because I'm usually looking up at the trees when I walk past that bit.

One was for dyes and while I realise it's barely worth the forum space posting pictures of signs with no plants I thought "What the hell." and went snap happy anyway. If there's no plant beside the tag it's because there was no plant beside the tag. ;)

You should see the bed when everything is in full bloom  :D

Come Summer come by and wander around my garden, I'll match the dyed wools and silks to the plants for you if you like.

Excellent post :)

There is a herb garden like this somewhere in manchester. Might be heaton park. I took some woad seeds home but they never grew. No harm in asking for any seeds though, im sure the staff wont mind.

I plan to. ;)

Came across a Witch Hazel in full bloom down by the river that managed to set off a ten minute winter hay fever attack.

You have to love city wildlife for not caring that you're there.

I even fed the little grey tree rats. In my defense I did imagine wee crosshairs while I was doing it.

Aw that's a shame about the hayfever; I love the scent of the Hammamelis :) I used to cut a flowing branch and just keep it in a vase to scent the house. It works so subtly, like a bowl of quinces do. Lovely :D

Really good to see the photos, thank you

cheers,
M
