Just been looking at goldenrod, it does grow at altitude, but the petals don't look right to me....But if the above plant is only 10 cm heigh, it sounds stunted, so maybe the petals are affected too...

Hi John.i've just been reading some of my books and according to them Golden-rod is a very variable perennial, as you say it might stunted. I will have a root around and see what transpires

Was there just one of it or were there other plants the same?

If it is an isolated plant then it could be a mutation of something more common.

It looks a bit disorganised, like it isn't supposed to be like that.
