Hi, I'm trying to get some Pignut plants or seeds,to grow and then re-plant in a friends field,As I've tried to find them, but have had no luck locally.
Please let me know if you can help
Cheers
They don't do well when cultivated (especially in cultivated soil). Apparently folks tried back at the start of the agricultural revolution but it didn't work.
However, you probably need similar conditions to where they're found, so perhaps a reasonably poor soil. I collected some seed and planted it in ericaceous compost. They germinated the following spring and stayed as a single leafed plant for a year, died down over winter and this year have the typical umbellifer foliage.
I've not seen the plants or seeds for sale but where they do grow they often grow in abundance so perhaps asking for some seeds here might help? They like acidic conditions.
Hi Forest Fella, I'll PM you a link later.
I'd send you some but all of ours are propogated now, sorry.
The source was very reasonably priced.
Cheers, Alan.
