Iv just weighed it mate and acording to my inacurate scales its about 4kg i wear it around the waist and its very comfy and light, its even comfier than having the weight on your shoulders.hope that helps mate.

Yes mate she is a vizsla lovely dog as long as you like being anoyed all the time love her to bits tho. Cheers

Great work, Vizsla!

Just some thoughts; On one of the pictures I can still see the blanket in the roll. This way there is a risk it will get wet. Try folding the blanket into the canvas competely to avoid that.
How much blankets did you use and how low could temps. drop befor you would get uncomfortable?

Cracking job mate, look forward to the field report :)

What weight of canvas did you go for in the end, was it a pain to stitch ?

cheers ron to be honest i just rolled it in a rush to take the pick but good point,iv carried it through heavy rain and the inside was bone dry.
iv just used the one blanket stiched like a sleeping bag, iv used it at about 6 degrees and was cosy even when i woke up, i left the blanket full lenth about 7foot so i can rap it around me or even pull it over my head.
as last pic shows on the same night my brother slept with 2 british wool blankets and was cold so i think it works quite well, i may stich half a blanket on top later in the year so its still like a sleeping bag but an extra layer on the top.
feel free to ask questions mate as i remember you wanting somthing similar

shewie i went for the canvas you sagested mate id say its about 12oz which is quite thin but its windproof and waterproof so it works fine, and not too heavy.
iv used it a couple of times and had a good nights sleep.
i wouldnt recomend it for long distance hicking but for a conoe or short distance its great.
thanks for finding the canvas mate
ash

sorry forgot it was fine to stich mate i just nicked a small hole first with a pointed knife, took a while though!!, i was determined to do it all by hand.

Thanks shogun

I am taking a slightly different approach.
I got a WW2-style sleepingbag cover for free, which I am going to make waterrepellant by applying a parafine/beeswax mixture to it.
Then add a Dutch army blanket and wrap the hole thing in a 1953 Dutch army shelterhalf. That one will be treated as an oilcloth, so it will be waterproof.

tell me about it - if only i had the time

I'm a baldric rig and hobo stove down and half way through my wind proof smock so this one will be next :D
