Following on from the previous pear spoons, no. 3 is a radially cut spoon with some sap wood showing, and 4 is tangentially cut with just heart wood showing. These are progressively thinner than 1 and 2, and 3 is about right, but 4... in my eyes is just too thin. It feels a little fragile and sharp in places, which I have tried to help with burnishing (all of them are burnished with no sanding) but it hasn't cured it. Atleast I've found my boundaries with pear, you never know until you try it. I need to concentrate more on grain changes (particularly the area between bowl and handle) and the very edges of the bowl, I can't quite seem to get these as defined and neat as I'd like them to be. That's enough of pear spoons for me for now though... onto some other woods for a while. I've got a willow half done and I'd like to return to birch! Cheers.

I love the grain of the pear wood and the shape of your spoons. It sounds bizarre but they look as though they'd be really easy and lovely to use. I tend to carve mine with longer handles so that I can get to the bottom of the dehydrated meal bags without covering my fingers; however, yours have convinced me that having mucky digits is a price worth paying if using a spoon like that. Wonderful!

Thanks Tiley! I do need to keep my mind open to long handled spoons. I think a break from eating spoons would be a good idea, maybe something a bit bigger like a serving spoon should be next!
