If you had of you'd have realised the writer of it doesn't mention he used it to hunt with and therefore your question is redundant. The majority of it is about what he was taught by the old gentleman on how to make and use a sling that was used by his tribe.

Sling.

Most folks with 'black widow' type slingshots use ball bearings.....though using aniseed balls for target practice can cause a lot of amusement as the local dogs go nuts sniffing around afterwards. The sweeties shatter into white sugary stuff that they find irresistable.
