Ox Head Axes??

What can ya'll tell me about Ox Head brand axes?

I found a place that sells that at a GREAT deal....the head only.....I want a straight handle.....this way I can get the grain/shape that I want.....

But what abouy the heads themselves?

Thoughts? Experience?

About all I can comment on is the look and feel of the head as I still have not put a handle on this one.

This head seems nicely made. The eye looks like it will be pretty easy to set a handle in. The head shape looks like it will not require much effort to set up. I cannot speak to the steel etc at this point, but given the price point I think this looks like it will make a very good ax.

I just need some more time in my life....

Yeah, these heads seem nice....if you buy one already handled....you are looking at $70 plus!

Bensbackwoods does them on the web - look at some European and especially German hunting companies too as that's where they're from. I've only heard good things but to be honest I haven't heard that much full stop.

Never used one but I'm interested in how you get on if you buy one Stonedog, and keep us updated Schwert.
I've looked at handled versions, with the Stihl logo on ,at my local dealer.
Resisted temptation so far ,thought they looked like good axes though.

Mine is from Ben's Backwoods. I picked up a boy's ax helve for it months ago but just have not even started to fit it.

This one is the 1.8lb head. It has a bit wider cutting edge than my GB Scandinavian Forest ax. I will be interested to see how it works with about a 26-28" helve.

Fall is a good time to work on it....I hope.

Ive got loads of Ochsenkopf. Axes, bilhook(too light), drawknife There seem great forged tools.
Ive got the camping hatchet which is 800g with the handle but has more power than a gransfors wildlife when chopping/carving. Kind of a half wayhouse between wildlife and SFA. as the handle is still short. Ive got the large forestry axe for delimbing/felling trees sorrry cant remember its wieght as its not near me but it has a thinner head followed by a hollow to stop it getting stuck as often. great bit of kit but lives in the landy most of the time.
I like gransfors as there hand forged and look nice, but ox-head are similar standard and a bit cheaper. Mind work paid for mine so thats even better.

I was wondering what would be the best all round choice....the 1.3# head or the 1.8# head?

I am going to helve either with a 20" straight handle....
