Hi guys, at the moment i work for arnold clark( mechanic) but with the current economic situation, it looks like there will be some redundancies, and for a while now iv been trying to find a job in the outdoors area, unsure of what excatly but something to get a new experiance etc.

iv been on the forrestry com, national trust, google etc etc, but having no luck.

Does anyone know any sites or companies where i could have a look at these sort of jobs, particulary ones that dont need degrees etc.

or even how some of yourselves got into them.

cheers.

Countryside jobs would be the main one
http://www.countryside-jobs.com
there is a free view online service and a subscription service. they do all levels of jobs and it will give you an idea of pay scales which are pretty poor for private work and not too dire for LA work, but many of them do ask for Degree and/or previous experience. Thay do advertise voluntary posts too.
Certaily if you are flexible and can move around some offer accomodation/ food etc and a great experience.

www.environmentjob.co.uk
is another one but they don't seem to have quite as much on.

Good Luck

You and me are in the same boat David, but for different reasons - I've got to get out of the whole office environment before I strangle someone!
From what I've seen you have two options, you have the outdoor adventure route or the conservation route - the latter being what I'm aiming for, but as said there is little open for those that have little or no experience in this field or a degree.

I'm looking at volunteer work initially - check your local parks, ranger service's for opportunities nearby - moving onto to actually getting a piece of paper (NVQ/OCN) to help find those doors further down the line, but the volunteering may open its own doors for you.

Useful links I've come across:
Lantra - the Sector Skills Council for the environmental and land-based sector.
http://www.lantra.co.uk/

BTCV - http://www2.btcv.org.uk/display/btcv_home

Groundwork - http://www.groundwork.org.uk

If your quick and are willing to jump straight in with a work placement, try http://www.projectlemur.org - they only have the three sites; Devon, Sheffield and I think Warwickshire and the closing date for this year is at the end of this month.

Hope this helps.

Here's another link for you David ;) .

Following what calibanzwei said about volunteering, it is a good avenue to getting qualifications and also getting yourself known.
Here's a link for Glasgow City council:

What about estate work, it's pretty varied but quite low paid  .
Try finding out if there's any Factors ( those responsible for running estates and usually solicitors) in Glasgow and ask about job opportunities, worth a try.

The best of luck mate :)

Pete.
