I went geocaching before a meeting and forgot my camera, and it happened to photo opportunity of a life time. A Chinese water deer stood about 20ft in front of me. We had a staring comp, I lost he ran. Then I spotted 5 moorhen chicks and a marsh harrier. Great day but next time the camera goes in the bag first.

Marshes and bogs and wetlands aren't much discussed are they ? Yet they are wonderful havens of wildlife and natural resources, let alone quite beautiful at times :)

The sea marshes and meadows were considered excellent hunting and foraging grounds in the past, and the bogs were used for everything from wild berries to sphagnum to peat and wet cold storage for butter.

Fascinating places. Seeing the water deer like that must have been brilliant :D

cheers,
Toddy
