Hi folks, well i ain,t been out into the woods for what seems an age,so seeing it was such a nice calm one,i though a brew in front of a fire would chill me out nicely.
So i got my daysack filled and off i went.
It was good to be back once again seeing the old place,it was a bit muddy and very slippery under foot, and there were a fair few trees blown over after all the high winds we've had.
Well i picked my spot, and then gathered wood, some for a seat type bench, and the rest for my fire.
I collected tinder as i went.
After sorting the fire wood into three separate sizes,i lay down a double layer of sticks to raise the fire from up off the wet ground.
I next made up my tinder bundle, which consisted of dead Cleavers, the dry tops of some sort of Umbelifier, and some Rosebay Willowherb fluff that was still clinging to the plant.
I chose to use flint and steel and a piece of Fommes as my fire starter.
With a couple of strikes, the Fommes began to glow.
Then it was into the tinder bundle, and blown to flame.
With the bundle all aflame,i stuck it onto the platform, then put matchstick size twigs on top to get it going.
Looking good.
So with that out the way,i made up basic pot hanger for the billie, and got it on to boil.
Whilst the billie was coming up to the boil,i next made up my seat.
My seat and billie ticking over.
And one of me chillin.
After my brew i let the fire die down, and started carving a netting needle.
Once the fire was well out and dusk was on its way,i cleared the fire away and returned everything back to nature.
So here i now sit, with a rosy glow after a fine day spent in the woods.
Anyway that was my day, thanks for looking .
Cheers Stuart.
