OOOOO in your Billy

This is probably a bit of an old one but in my 10cm Billy as well as a tuna can stove I stuff it with 00000 fine wire wool. This make a great tinder and even work when wet ( just squeeze it out first) with a firesteel. It get very hot and is even better if you have some lard or fat. just strike, blow and the fat will flame.

You can also use it to finish off spoons etc ... and ...urr...clean your Billy

As I said I know it is a bit of an old one but I thought it was worth the post.

Yup. Or a larger 4V5 cell like in those large boxy torches or even a Petzl Zoom.

Fat, OOOOO and a battery have been used as an improvised incendiaries so that gives you an idea how effective it can be.

Yup COLRON prepare & repair steel wool fine grade 00000. If you go to a B&Q it is not with the rest of the wire wool and papers it is with the wood treatment e.g. the teak and Danish oil and the touchup sticks etc.

00000 also works as a primer tinder as well. as I found out last night. I was playing with a flint and steel (well actually a file ) with a tinder tube. My tinder ball was just some sisal string but I was having trouble getting it to light so I just put an walnut sized piece of 00000 in the middle of the ball and lit it with the coal. The intence heat from the 00000 brought the sisal to flames on the first blow.

I had a similar problem with a nest used as tinder. The steel wool caused it to explode into flames as I blew on it. Nearly lost my eyebrows!
