  • Merry Christmas Guest, we hope that you have a great day wherever you are, and we're looking forward to hearing of your adventures in the New Year!
Yep, see what you mean Jodie, but if Ray or Woodlore wanted to, they cood sponsor an existing charity. Lets say, Comic Relief, Woodlore could approach Comic Relief, see what they need and where they need it and pay for, lets say a water pump or purification unit or whatever. Then it gets built with a shiny plaque saying '2007 Ray Mears/ Woodlore, builders of quality Birch Bark canoes for 25 years'! or some such legend.

Seriously, all they have to do is select a suitable charity that is already established, donate and put a link to their web site on the Woodlore site.

I'd still like to see Ray (and friends?) take some teenage hoodies into the middle of knowhere and get them to sit still and listen before teaching them about bushcraft. I know it would be similar to 'Brat Camp' but that was American run with British kid's. I just think Ray's involvement in an unknown destination would give it some credibility. I dont doubt for a second the Americans have credibility, it's possibly a case of taking themselves too seriously or no sense of irony or even communicating on a different level. They do a great job, but i'm sure we could help our kid's better!

More good ideas. Actually they already are involved in charity stuff (I did a
quick google) so I might leave them to it and focus my efforts on the BBC
- I am a bit selfish like that :D

The BBC have now made available a selection of programmes that can be purchased
for download from their shop - not Ray Mears unfortunately but Bruce Parry's Tribe is
in there.

The next polite and cheerful letter I write to the BBC will probably include mention of
this exciting development in sales and its potential to enable material to be released
without (I'm assuming) a lot of faffing about or expense beforehand :)

Here is an example of a pledge at pledgebank.com (from two years ago) which tried
to get a radio comedy released
http://www.pledgebank.com/Mitchell-W

It would appear that there was a success as series 1 and 2 are available on CD
http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/thatmitchellandwebbsite/radio.shtml

From what I gather we should be able to do something here so I'm not suggesting
that anyone sets anything up at pledgebank yet, and certainly not without clearing
it with Tony and Woodlore.

But it's something to think about :)
