hi
The farm where our North Wood meets are held are celebrating the 100 year anniversary of their family's farm ownership.
To this end they want to mark it with an event held at the farm the weekend of 7-8th july 2012.
To help with the celebrations they have booked the following attractions and entertainments;
vintage motorcycle display,
vintage cars,
vintage tractors (of course)
steam traction,
shire horses,
crafty type stuff
this list may be added to nearer the time.
There will be the usual catering on site in the form of burger van etc. we get free entry to this
Then on the early evening there will be a traditional barn dance complete with callers,
there will also be a hog roast and bar.
there are a potential 9 nights available here at exeptional value!
anyone staying over 4 consecutive nights, will pay £20 in total this will include free entry into the festivities and 1 hog roast portion
anyone staying up to 4 consecutive nights will pay £15 in total this will include free entry into the festivities and 1 hog roast portion.
drink will of course be extra.
This will be followed by a rock band to round off the evening provided by the bikers, this is a seperate event in another barn and may be chargeable via a donation
They expect a lot of the exibitors to be camped up in a seperate field maybe 50+
It would seem silly not to organise an extra meet to accommodate this event and it was suggested by Gordon my farming friend, that we could encourage the visitors / exibitors to see how we operate should they want to wander into the wood.
This would be an ideal opportunity for our many skilled makers to display their wares, or indeed any surplus gear for sale. along with anyone who wants to demonstrate any skills.
So, i'm going to make this an extra meet . makers indicate which skill you have. or if anyone wishes to demonstrate a particular aspect of bushcraft.
.......................................................................................................................................................................................................
And the usual caveats...
This meet we will be at the lower end of north wood parking will be on CP3. for those who want to, drop off your gear (see map link below) and return your car to CP1.
There will be some planned maintenance for those who want to take part, its never an issue if you would rather chill, have a wander, practice skills or just nod off!, entirely voluntary
Ok as before, just a reminder of terms, guidlines and directions.
fees, to be ignored on this occasion, see above
recently we have had to increase the fees more or less in line with comparable sites. pay on arrival or as soon as is practicable. I don’t want to be chasing people for fees as they’re packing up!
• 18+............. £5 per night,
• Aged 12~17 .....£3 per night
• Under 12 ..........free.
Fires
After discussions amongst the 'North Wood Regulars' it has been decided to introduce a communal fire.
We feel in order to maintain our supply of free wood it is imperative that we act now. North Wood is getting known and seems to be gaining in popularity, what none of us want is to end up in a year or so with a sterile wood. You have left your pitches in impeccable order, no blame is to be attached to yourselves but with anything up to a possible 20+ individual fires whether for warmth or cooking, stocks will rapidly dwindle.
To ensure the future of North Wood as a camping, bushcraft venue, and to conserve the continuing stocks of wood for the communal areas, the following conditions will apply;
- Wood collected and processed during the course of the meet is for use in the communal fire area (excluding small sticks, twigs) so that everyone benefits, or in some cases for the use of the farmer.
- If you want to bring in your own Honey Stoves, hobo stoves, twig, small stick burners (thumb size) and the like, they are acceptable providing they have sufficient ground clearance or protection to prevent scaring. Pit fires or similar are not acceptable.
- Modified jerry can (or similar) stoves, tent/tipi/lavvu stoves and the like are not acceptable unless you bring a sufficient amount of fuel for your needs for the duration of the meet.
- live wood is to be left untouched, unless of course there's planned maintenance, in which case it will go to the communal fire or any projects.
This is not negotiable, If you require clarification on what is acceptable, drop me a pm.
I hope I have explained my motives for these actions clearly. They have been put in place to ensure the longevity of North Wood as a venue and a source of free fuel
Rubbish
we’re still here on trial so it really is a case of leaving no junk / fire scars etc. the only thing we should leave is a good impression, take your rubbish home, there are no facility’s to leave it on the farm.
There have been odd occasions when other peoples rubbish has had to be disposed of, If you brought it in, it’s up to you to dispose of it. No exceptions.
