Chiseller, I've just shown those pics to my mother in law, whom was 40 years a seamstress. Fair to say she agreed with your assessment.

In short, ask for a refund. No pro would put their good name to that :(

You have my sympathies mate, I had a similar experience years ago and an expensive raincoat repaired by a money it seemed.

:sigh:
That looks awful :(

Could she not at least have used the scraps from the sleeves to bind the edges ?
or a nice neutral soft tan coloured leather ?

See if it's been fixed underneath the leather, so that the seam is sealed and the feathers trapped, and then take that black mess off and recover the edge with something right. Somewhere I have soft tan coloured pigskin Chis, but I'm pretty sure I have scraps of green goretex too.

Thinking on it; seam sealant tape for goretex comes in a pale OD. Two layers of that stitched together into a fold would go on tidily like bias binding, and it could be ironed afterwards to make blooming sure it'll not move/fray or wear quickly.

atb, (and a Happy New Year :grouphug: to you and the missus)

Forty quid for a waterproof down gillet with strong fabric and no end of pockets....the hood must be worth that for just sleeping in .
