Cheers

I bought a big Swede (rather than a Super Swede) last week from here: http://www.grahamsofinverness.co.uk/

It's has a slightly different shaped blade (smaller with ricasso) but still has the lock - otherwise same build quality etc. The chap in the shop said he bought a load a few years back but couldn't get any more. This could be one of the few places that has some now. If you want a photo let me know.

In the woods if possible.
Cheers for that, but the one I have/had was a lock knife

Please pay attention. It's the same knife, just the name has changed.

Pasted verbatim from the page that I linked to:

"The Swede 92 is a sturdy folding knife with a unique tailed locking bar leaving a smooth top side area."

I do love my Swede 60, It's got the basic green plastic scales, it's had years of hard use in it and still looks pretty much brand new.
Holds a wicked edge too.

This a bump of really old thread... Here's mine.
EKA_SuperSwede_1983 by Frank Schweppe, on Flickr

This one was sold in 1983 in a limited series to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mentora Zwerfsport outdoor store in Rotterdam (Netherlands), but since that store fused that same year with the larger Bever Zwerfsport store to become the beginning of a chain that is now the largest chain of outdoor stores in the country, the sheath bears a beaver logo (beaver being 'bever' in Dutch). Bubinga wood handle instead of the more common black plastic one. I used it a fair lot during hikes in Sweden and on training weekends in the 1980s with the Dutch chapter of the Backpackers Club. Good knife, fine for food prep and sturdy enough for harder use. No play whatsoever in the lock mechanism and the blade once opened. Brass inner plates, stainless steel blade and locking bar. Crawled out of an overfilled desk drawer recently where it had hibernated even longer than this thread, lol.

Mine's[*] here on my desk, always within reach. Still my favourite folder.

That sheath looks pretty good, did it come with the knife?

A friend bought a sheath for me as a little thank you after I towed something somewhere for him, but it isn't a perfect fit. I've never found one that fit exactly right, would love a better one.

[*] Yes I had two, but the wife stole one.

Mine didn’t come with a sheath.
Nope. I’ve just checked an old Malcberry’s catalogue and can’t see one.

For those who would still like to acquire a Normark Super Swede, they are occasionally offered for sale on ebay. They are most often in various states of "used" condition, so very carefully study the pictures and ask questions of the sellers
They are great old knives that I have enjoyed for many years. I read somewhere that they were a favorite of "Lofty" Wiseman.

Dunno whether the evident confusion at Song of the Paddle was ever resolved back in 2013.

Here is my Big Swede shown against the 1970’s catalogue from which I bought it.

The Big Swede and Super Swede are side by side in the illustration.

Mine has mahogany scales because one of the plastic ones got crushed.

It was certainly expensive!

Not in the UK buddy. EBay UK banned knife sales years ago and you can’t bid on overseas knife sales.

Anyway here’s a Big Swede I got recently from the Car Boot sale.

I suspect that this TBS is superior to the original if only that the micata handle is solid rather than the hollow plastic of the latter.

Also the brass liner seems to extend the full width of the handle whereas in the original it occupied a central groove only 20mm wide leaving the rest void.

I prefer the position of the lock release on the back of the Big rather than that on the butt of the Super but that’s just me.

Super Swede was rubber handled.

On the lock, definitely. I got cut pretty badly poking an old oak window frame to see how far through the rot had gone. Me pushing the knife released the blade, I reckon it’s a truly stupid place to put a lock.
