Spoke to a friend of mine today who works for nokia, He said that the GPS facility is on the phone it just depends on whether your service provider will support the software. Also the system uses the masts to locate you/the phone rather than satelites so apparently is not as accurate.

No, the GPS is a true GPS using satellite information to plot systems (unlike the 911 locator system in the US that uses information sent from cell phone masts to plot position). In theory, the device should be accurate to about 10m. In practice though, these kings of devices suffer from poorer antennas and also from interference from the phone components.

Another problem with them is lack of features - for example, that device only lets you createa dn store 100 waypoints (points you've marked), whereas the cheapest GPS now will lwt you store around 500.

I'm suspicious of GPS in phones too because really the phone makers and mobile phone companies don't whant to give you anything for free and tie these things into SMS and WAP too much, basically so you dial out a lot!
