Hi Guys,

I'm an ex squaddie, who's more at home crashing in a maggot and bivvy under a landy.... but i may have seen the light! or maybe i'm just getting old and looks forward to a bit of comfort???

Anyway, i've gone and got myself a new DD hammock after reading all the great feedback on here, but that now leaves trying to figure out where i can try it out before i head off to Brecon.

Is there a hanging about group on this forum, that good give me the heads up? or does anyone know of any Bushcraft friendly campsites?

I'm now based in Berkshire, but travel around a lot, so all suggestions most welcomed.

Cheers

Storm

I just head out into the nearest woods and string it up. It's Woodland Trust, so no camping, but can't see why they'd object to me just trying out my technique (whoopie slung). Shugs videos on YouTube are very entertaining

Hi Storm,

I am in Berkshire too, and I see no problem trying your setup out in the nearest patch of Forestry Commission land that's open for the public. The place I use has signs permitting cycling, walking, running, horses etc. It's quite large so there are many lonely patches of woodland there. If you are just trying the kit out and not staying the night I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem.

By the way, I tried out a new hammock setup at Blackberry Wood campsite near Brighton the other month who welcome hammock campers. They have a couple of suitable pitches which worked fine.

There is also this place north of Basingstoke just over the county border. I haven't checked with them yet but it looks like they might be cool with hammocks.

HTH and let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Simon
