Just saw this on The Register about a new way to purify water using crushed seeds of the drumstick tree. It would seem that you would still need to boil afterwards but still looks like a great method when you don't have a water filter.

Yes, I knew that. Posted that one a few years ago. A shame we don't have the Moring Oleifera growing in this part of the world :(

It shows again how less we know about the plantworld - and the importance of conservating it.

Only other 'plant' I can think of (sort-ish) would be, as featherstick mentioned, spagnum moss, due to the fact the contents of iodine.
