Hi all,

In order to earn some brownie points I decided to to carve a love spoon for swmbo, plus I have never tried one before.

I decided to do it all by hand - axe to tidy up the log into a blank, spoon knife, various knives, a mini chisel and lots of sandpaper.
I wanted to take my time and reckon it took about 18 hours in all over maybe 2 weeks in total.

Anyway here's the step my step pics from start to finish, I may well give it another coat of oil in the morning but am reasonably happy with the results.

That is a super spoon! What wood did you use.... I can't make it out on my small device. :notworthy

Too be honest I have no idea, I picked up a fair bit of it earlier in the year in some local woodland after the tree surgeons have been through.
Tree I.D isnt my strong point but it has a fairly smooth grey/green bark and reasonably straight grain. Someone suggested it might be ironwood but I'm not 100%.

It's fairly easy to work with even after its seasoned so probably isn't, there was a lot of it in the area which is a small nature reserve in Chessington, Surrey.

Your more than welcome Tristar, I got the idea from the latest edition of bushcraft magazine which I recall you saying you had picked up in the other thread.

Top tip, especially if you freehand drawing is a naff as mine, trace the outline of the template they provided onto grease proof paper with the missus' eyeliner pencil and rub onto you blank wood with the back of a spoon to transfer it.
