For me Nomex every time. I've worn them for ~20yrs (Flying gloves with cuffs shortened and occasionally trigger fingers removed!) The beauty is they're fireproof to some extent but thin enough to allow manipulation of small objects. I still use them for bushcraft when heavy work isn't needed, then I use US Army cowhide workgloves (tough as old nails!!):red:

Tried neoprene but way too sweaty:( :(

Just checked the link for flight gloves and they are good value, usually more expensive than this, exactly the same as my own too!!

Thanks MikeE, I'm thinking I'll get the Nomex gloves. As far as the price goes I have a pouch by the same maker (Bulle) and the quality is only middling, though the gloves seem better value.

The nomex are very good but don't totally ignore the neoprene ones.
I once spent a very cold, windy and sleeting december day working on a farmers water pump in the middle of his field, wearing neoprene gloves. At the end of the day, my hands were the warmest despite the other helpers having dry hands all day.
If your expecting any wet work - they're just great.

I'd vote for the nomex flying gloves, I've got a few pairs of these and they are great. I've worn them in the field quite a bit. The trick is to get them quite tight fitting, then soak them in hot water (while wearing them) and then wear them until they are dry. This will stretch the leather to fit your hand and leave a glove that, well, fits like a glove!

Note that they are not the warmest, but the advantage of maintaining dexterity while wearing them means that you can often keep wearing them when you would have had to remove bulkier, warmer gloves. Lets face it, the warmest gloves in the world wont do much for you if you have to take them off and put them in your pocket.

Hi,
Just playing devils advocate hereI 've used nomex and the originals are excellent trick is getting pukka ones though, UK flying gloves(green leather) used with the silk liners are also good.
But barbour do some neoprene fishing gloves with fold back fingertips which for cold wet and or freezing/ snowy conditions are brilliant I have used them for Shooting in Scotland throughout the winter months and am really impressed with them £14 well spent and for really foul weather these are what I grab.
Cheers Tim
