Hi guys,

Just wondered if the waterproofing treatment on a tent was definitely ok or if it was a bit too superficial ?
I don't doubt that Hilleberg tents are incredibly waterproof but I know that (sometimes) factory waterproofing treatments can be a bit "weak".

I just wanted to have your input on that and to know if anyone would rather have their tent (re ?)waterproofed..even if they are new ?

Many thanks

I wouldn't proof a new tent. If it was properly pitched and leaked I'd be sending it back.

If it's a Hilleberg you're buying I wouldn't worry; they didn't get the reputation they have for flogging sieves.

The main problem used to be the seams, which needed sealing. Nowadays, most reputable brands tape all seams so the seam sealiong is not needed. Be careful though. I have a Coleman tent that I use for car/base camping and guy out tabs were added after the seams tape had been applied, and there were potential leakage holes in that stitching which had to be sealed. I very much doubt that you need worry with a Hilleberg:)

That's pretty much what I thought.:umbrella:

Hopefully it will pour this weekend....or maybe not ;) I have all the time to find out if the tent is leaking !
