How big is this pack?

My assumption is that it is british army issue, and about 60 or 80 + 20. i've been using this for many years, more recently I've been given the pockets and the webbing straps to use the pockets seperately. Granted it looks huge, like I could carry everything but the kitchen sink!! In reality, the pockets are easily accessible and carry the essentials, the main comparment is largely empty other than sleeping bag, spare clothes & food.stove. So it's never often full unless I'm away for more than a week but I like it nevertheless.

Out of interest does anyone else use one?

See attached images.

Cheers,

M

I have to admit to finding that I still had mine when I left the TA....lol ;)

They are good strong packs but I do find them a little large... I'm sure mine is 100L + the 20L side pockets but I might be wrong... I must have run and walked litterally hundreds of miles with it on my back and it's done me ok, and it can take very heavey weight and spread it well. Not the most comfortable bergan in the world but when you consider it's general issue I don't think it's that bad really :)

I've got a Berghaus Crusader in OG that I prefer and use more and a Berghaus Rock 35L daysack that does for most weekends (when I'm not playing show and tell with any new toys..lol).

Bam.

There are two types of bergans - 'short back' and 'long back.'

Both are 100l or 120l with the side pockets attached. The 'short back' one is wider and rides higher up the back (it was designed that way so that you can use webbing around your waist and carry the rucksack at the same time).

You can also get medical side pouches instead of the normal side pockets. These have more compartments for kit.
