Well....it worked!!! thanks to Sir Dave and g4ghb for your guidance...both oak and leather have gone exactly like I'd hoped...

finally got round to doing a decent pouch...stitched version next...

mora sandvik 12c27 blade with brazilian tulipwood over red liners with mosaics...

and now for the soppy bit (fairy toast anyone?????)....

Great looking leather! If you finish your edges instead of leaving them rough you will really have outstanding pieces. Finishing edges is not a hard secret process, mostly just a wee bit of friction with an old piece of canvas, some soap, and wax.
