Met a lovely family on a beach near us yesterday. The mother carrying her pack and the little ones of her children as well. They were on a twenty four hour adventure and looking for a stealth camp site. The children must have been about 5 and 7 years old and were brimming with enthusiasm even after walking a fair distance. Lucky children and a happy mother.

I love to see kids being encouraged to be adventurous rather than just sitting in front of their computers. Says she, sitting in front of her computer.

Last year I done the South Downs Way, met a single Mum, and her 6 year old son who also were doing the walk. They were using a camper van to start from everyday they drove to a station closest to the path, then catch the train back to where they slept the night before and walk back to the van, sleep and then repeat the following day. On average they walked a minimum of 12 miles. They were so happy together chatting away even through the rain, I was very impressed, when considering you walk any high street and witness tantrums and screaming.

kids NEED the outdoors, my 3 year old gets grumpy if she spends too much time indoors and the 12 year old gets really grumpy when he has played on his xbox
