'Meths' is generally used to refer to methylated spirits (or methylated ethanol as you put it - same thing).
However, methanol is increasingly being used as a stove fuel as it is cheaper than methylated spirits. The lower energy output of methanol is no real problem and a little more care in the handling is required as methanol is rather more toxic than metylated spirits.

Methylated spirit is the quality stuff - but never forget the lemons and tonic water when you set out.
