This may sound silly now, where does these grow? I don't think I have come across it. I'm looking up the tree now and I'm not sure if that one is around where I live.

I don't think you'd find an example outside of a botanical gardens in this country.

It's a tree that grows in semi arid conditions of Southwestern USA and Mexico. Apparently it's one of the most expensive woods in the USA for milled lumber
 
Very handsome spoon! By the way, if you are planning to eat with it, what sort of taste does mesquite wood have? I know different woods have different tastes. Sycamore isn't bad, but I prefer to eat off a metal spoon.
