Hi there
Here's a link the pack I made up a few years ago... (based on the Hellcat conversions)

Medium Alice
Down East plastic frame
And Molle pack shoulder strap and kidney belt...

I love this pack.. the genuine alice packs are bomb proof, I have a large one I got back in 1988 for fishing, from a surplus store....still going stong too.

cheers
Gareth

There's some very smart looking packs there, mine (just arrived and impressed.....) has all metal buckles, and is a little more tired looking. Will have to research this "hellcat "conversion. The name alone puts me off..................lol!

Half way down the page is a very good illustrated article...

Here is one with the same 1606 plastic frame i used.. I however fixed the sleeping bag carrier in a similar way to the set up on the Molle ll pack using the toggles into the frame. (Can only be done on a plastic Molle 1606AC frame.) As the frame is shorter than the Molle ll one, you can only fix the top toggles, but they are really solidly sewn to the pack so it ain't coming off..
The MSS carrier adds a great extra carrying capacity and is separate from the pack so if you put all your sleeping kit in there you don't have to get it out when you need stuff in the main pack. The Molle ll straps and kidney strap are huge improvements on the original Alice one, and fit fine on either the metal or plastic frames..(better on the latter) but both work.

cheers

Hi I've used Alice packs for years, at present I have 1 frame with straps, a Medium and Large sack, I often leave the large sack on the frame and use seperate straps on the medium and use it mostly as a soft pack.
i've modified both sacks and frame.
The frame some of the rivets were squeaking and some parts were getting worn, I made duplicates of the metal parts and replaced them, the rivets I replaced with bolts as they will be so much easier to fix in the future.
The shoulder straps and waist strap I've swapped for straps from a Civilian pack....much nicer and more supportive.
The large pack I've added compression straps, it's very flappy if partially full.
The Medium, I've also modified a few ways, I think I did a thread about it I'll have a look.

My personal opinion ALICE is a nice system, not the most comfortable but, easy to fix, easy to modify, plus lots of add on pouch options. it's only main issue for me is the material isn''t to waterproof, but a waterproof liner sorts that out.
