So I've been talking to Mary (Toddy) for the past few weeks about making a cloak. The thought started off with our local school doing a world book day character fancy dress so I thought I quite fancied something from LOTR. Then I thought that actually I wanted something for sitting around the fire. Mary sent me through this:
I haven't found a decent source of wool yet but I did also fancy making a waterproof outer layer, Mary sent me a link to some eBay sellers and I bought 6m of waxed cotton for £24 delivered to start having a play with.
Now this was my first time really making anything on the sewing machine so I thought to save fabric I'd have a go at using the pattern on the left and making my 4 year old son a sort of poncho:
I then had to make my daughter one as well:
Now to use the last of the fabric to make mine up, this was going to be the left hand pattern so a cloak rather than a poncho:
I'm need to add some fastenings now, either hook and loop, poppers or something more traditional I haven't decided but I'm quite pleased with how these have turned out. Just need to find some wool now....
