I have a mac powerbook - works fine with you-tube, and other video. However, when trying to watch Mears on the BBCI-player it is very "staggered" and the audio is ahead of the images. Are there settings I can change? Anyone else have this problem with i-player? I am a technophobe so be gentle with me?!?!?!?

I have had problems with it on my windows PC but I have installed Silverlight and keep my windows installation up to date which helps.

Iplayer has fairly high definition video (higher than youtube) I find if my Broadband download speed drops much below 1gb then it starts to get jittery.

How fast is your broadband connection?

is you mac software up to date?

I'm using the same kit as you Malley, and often have the same problem, even though I have good bandwidth, and confirm this with speed tests. I have heard a rumor that BT limit the bandwidth available to iplayer in the evenings, when everyone is on it. Not sure if it's true, or how they would do it, but wouldn't be surprised. If that was the case it would affect PC owners too.
Alternative is to sign up on iPlayer for the Beta testing, then you can download the programme to keep for a few weeks. Will obviously play fine from this local disc copy.

Just to add to the above points.

Let it download / play first and once it is cached you should be able to play it without the issues described.

And I'm sad to say that BT aren't the only people to cap iPlayer speeds during peak times.

If you download a copy of "iPlayer Downloader" (free, just google it) then you can manage downloads of whatever you want.
