Howdy,

I am wondering if any one has a collection of rapid rivets, one on the top of my axe sheath has snapped out, its through 9mm of leather, the hole is roughly 5mm, here's some pics:)

its through 9mm of leather,

Yup, they're rapid rivets ~ a double cap rivet is the same beast with an extra cap covering its back end ;) .

You want a large rivet (about 12mm) ~ the largest I have are mediums  :( :sad6: . The finish looks like it's trying to imitate black rust (forced patina stylee) ~ accurate surmation?
If no one's able to help I can send a 'no where near a match' substitute.

HA! Cool, hey I don't mind a random rivet:) the brighter the better! would i need any special tool or form to set it, or just a variable pressure applicator and a block:)

In that case I have, for you, a choice of:
  • Solid Brass Double Cap Rivet,
  • Solid Brass Chicago Screw,
  • Nickel Plated Chicago Screw,
  • Solid Copper Saddler's Rivet.

Either of the Chicago Screws will need a small amount of fettling to shorten their shank ;) .

Your choice on whether you use a setting tool, you can set them without one ~ but you get a more aesthetic and pleasing finish with one (I think I'm out of setters at the mo  ) .

If you want the fastening to survive a nuclear winter go for the Saddler's rivet. Setting the washer in place can be done with a reasonably close fitting (but not tight) steel pipe. Then cut it down to 2 to 3mm proud of the washer and use the ball of a V.P.A to pein the stump to a dome. It'll age and patina nicely :approve: .
