Grey's only? I've got some dried boletus left from last year. Would go nicely in a tree rat stew in my dutch oven!!

I hear you, but, I'm a firm believer in using a lot of red wine for the dutch oven both, internally and yes, my internals

I use 1/2 white wine and claim all red = no need for purple food.

Perhaps a curry of hind quarters? A long slow braise with some root veg?
The resident squirrels here eat a lot of seed from spruce cones.
I'm afraid they would taste like toilet bowl cleaner.
