Lime bark string

Do you have to ret lime bark to make string or can you do it without retting?

Got a load of lime at the bottom of the garden and going to thin it out for carving ect ect
Just thought I would knock up some cord at the same time.

If it's small stuff it will sometimes peel like willow, but even that is very much better for being retted.
It'll stink to high heaven, but it's a marvellous fibre :D

A big bucket :)

Seriously, it works. All it needs is anaerobic bacteria to set about munching the 'glue' that holds the fibrous layers together.

Yep, a bucket, I've just took some wych elm strips from my bucket of black insect infested filth.
I forgot all about mine, it had been there for nigh on 2 months, a putrid smell of stagnant iron brew, and felt like under cooked pork crackling, but it works.
