Thanks Marooned. FWIW I got myself the Aldi night vision viewer for £99 last month and am impressed with it. If the Lidl one is the same then its money well spent.

I got a russian military NV, one that is passive, cant beat it for distance, and others in area with NV cannot see your "light". They are suprisingly cheap.

this link has some examples, although I cannot find my exact model. I think mine is generation 1 spotting scope, in snow camo, hand held with slight zoom. Got mine around 150 - 300 from what I remember.
