Saw the thread on some Seeland boots so took a look at the Seeland website and looked at their catalogue. Apart from taking a sharp intake of breath at the price of the harkila kit saw that they do cotton trousers with leather sewn into the front of them (both with and without Goretex) I wondered if anyone had tried this sort of thing as I presume the leather down the front would stop brambles etc from ripping them but also would leather down the front give any extra protection round the fire. Good idea or not? Full leather trousers just seem wrong :nono:

I did a similar thing with heavy-duty triple layer Goretex and a pair of moleskins, and that worked quite well until the underlying fabric wore out. I now have a pair of Filson trousers that have an extra layer of "Tin Cloth" on the front and the seat, and I think they're brilliant. So yeah, I'd say the idea is a good 'un, but I'm not entirely sure about leather for the job. I've been known to wear leather trousers, and they don't exactly breathe well, nor are they great in extremes of temperature. Mind you, you could say that about my Filsons too..

it's all about context.....they are the best thing in the world when you are sliding down the race track @ 90 miles an hour....the best thing in the world by far!!! (personal experiance)

but for any othe time i would expect Leather to be HOT (the bike leathers were unbearable in summer if you had to walk anywhere)

guess it depends on how clingy they are....as bike leathers are in concact with the skin so no air flow can cool you or evaporate sweat. I know i'm off subject here but just my experiance with the material.
