finished making this lanyard for my firesteel - its much better than the naff piece of rope it came with and its longer

any comments/ideas would be much appreciated

Great idea, this set up gives you a better "handle" while striking and is much nicer than a piece of string, well done. As for pictures I'm not sure but I thing there are guidelines on the forum somewhere.

Great stuff, you must be on the same wavelength as me, i was just about to make a post asking about where I can purchase 1/8inch strands of leather .

I didn't actually buy the leather in string form, I just cut some longs strips off the edge of a larger piece. That way when you buy the leather you can get sheets for sheaths as well as strips for braiding all out of one bit.

OK. I was hoping to get some stuff like the kangaroo leather matey from the outdoors magazine uses though, but from a uk store.

Looks like to braided it using the same tech. for making cordage.. nice work..

I'm going straight to a shop I know that sells leather.. and get started..

Nice work there, where do you get your leather lace from? I need some to make some lanyards for fire steels and knives.

Try this site 10 x 1 metre approx for £2.50 +postage http://www.attacc.com/acatalog/NEW___KNIFE___STICKMAKING.html scroll down about half way. Failing that try a local cobblers ask for a pair of leather boot laces.
