Do I need 2 ponchos to do the tent setup I keep seeing on YouTube ?
I am looking at it on one site and the one poncho comes with 4 pegs and a mast and it says you can join 2 for two people . Gives impression I only need one ?

Just asked on a group and apparently needs two for the tent one for half shelter. Thought as much just wanted to check
I see on eBay they do replicas made on polyester which would sort of defeat the object for me. Have to see what the future holds

If you are talking about the Polish Poncho, one can be set up like this, you will need two for a fully enclosed tent.

If you are buying one look out for the size. I didn’t know and bought small ones. You can tell by the number of peg holes at the back. Small has one, medium has two and large has three. There is a 100mm difference in hem length. It’s quite significant if you are tall.

On my two I would need two sets of poles even for a one poncho set up but a walking pole solves that one. From what I’ve read here some ponchos come with three pole sections. Mine came with two each.

I played with a Polish Lavvu last year. You will need two poncho to make a full tent. The idea is that two solders would each add their poncho to the "2man" tent.
You really do need to get the largest size ( 3 button at the bottom) to give any comfort { and I am a bit of a short bottom}.
Even better is to have the two halves set up a yard or so apart and add a rectangle of material to connect to two, Via a ridge line, together. This gives an oval shaped space with a load more room.
You can rig them so a chimney from a wood burner goes out via a sleave hole and they are toasty warm.

I could not get them to guy out well in my small garden and they are too heavy to carry so the project stalled!

Thanks for info folks appreciated. I like the thought of a hot tent but lugging a mountain of gear around is not appealing . I will refrain from spending money and stick with my poncho or basha I reckon
